1.61 to 1.6
« on: March 21, 2013, 09:27:40 pm »
I have an issue.  I have 1.61 for BF 42 and I want 1.6.  Some people made some suggestions, but does any of the patch switchers work for Windows 8?

Try using this patch switcher and if it doesn't work tell me what does happen when you try to use it

It said "Windows smart screen prevented an unrecognized app from starting.  Runnng this app might put your PC at risk."  It downloaded, but it got removed faster than I could run it.

You could disable smart screen but you may not want to do that.

So you were originally running 1.6, reinstalling battlefield 1942 should put you back to version 1.6.

If that doesn't work I could upload the 1.6 versions of the files that were updated in the 1.61 patch and you could replace them yourself.

Im going to reinstall it after we get our own Server.  But go ahead and put those patches up now, just in case if I need them.

There are five files in there that you would need to copy into your battlefield 1942 directory, replacing the version 1.61 files.

BF1942, BF1942.org and BF1942_w32ded would go into your root folder.
contentCrc32 and init would go into Battlefield 1942\Mods\bf1942.

It might be worth first copying the files that are going to be replaced so you still have them, just in case.

I have never done this myself but I don't see why it wouldn't work, what a patch switcher does is switch those 5 files for you.

this one should work
http://download.cnet.com/Battlefield-1942-Patchswitcher/3000-7433_4-10598804.html

download that, and you will get these three files

now put the two files like shown below into your Battlefield1942 folder in your programme files area

then create a SHORTCUT to your desktop or wherever you want it. dont just copy and paste you must create a shortcut (right click the application

Then anytime you use it you must right click the icon and "run as administrator" and you should be able to switch between 1.6 and 1.61 with ease

It's ok.  I got 1.6 now.  I don't need it.  Thanks anyway!
