ever since ive gotten internet my sound hasnt been working

My laptop lags when it overheats and it messes up my sound too...dont feel like your the only one ;)

Check the options that is all I can think of
I know it sounds stupid but you never know if it messed up the options....

we already tried that but when we press volume it says no sound drive or something like that and it wont let me turn up the volume or anything  :( :o what is wrong with my computer

Click the "Start" button
Click on "Control Panel"
Double-click on the "System" icon
Choose the "Device Manager" tab
Expand the tab "Sound, video, and game controllers"
Look at the devices that expand under that
Double click on anything relating to sound (there might be multiple devices, do this for all of them)
Click "Update Driver..."
While updating and once done, click on whatever gets you out of those windows (ie. "OK" "Apply" "Yes" "Continue") you get the point...
Restart your computer

If that doesn't work, i have one more thing for you to try.

You have XP but what service pack do you have? If you dont have service pack 2, you might have some glitches in your system.  Other wise do exzactly like Roids said and if that dosent work, you may need a new sound card... Let us know ;)
